CONJUNCTIONS -  1. IF
                                       2. WHETHER & IF 

 If  - used to say that a particular thing can happen only after something else happens.


Examples: 
You will drench in the rain if you go out now.
Tomorrow I will give you money if I get salary.
She will help us if you ask her.
Take rest if you are tired.


     Some more example with Hindi and Telugu.

       

             1.   I will forget the address if I don't write in the book.

                  अगर किताब में नहीं लिखूंगा तो मैं पता भूल जाऊंगा।

              నేను  పుస్తకంలో వ్రాయకపోతే  అడ్రస్  మరచిపోతాను. 

            2.  She will be happy if you come with me.

                  यदि तुम मेरे साथ आओगे तो वह खुश होगी।

                  మీరు నాతో వస్తే ఆమె  సంతోషిస్తుంది.  

  

3.  If you give police complaint you will get your lost things.

                 यदि आप पुलिस शिकायत देते हैं तो खोई हुई चीजें मिलेंगी।

                 మీరు  పోలీస్ కంప్లైంట్ ఇస్తే పోగొట్టుకున్న వస్తువులు దొరుకుతాయి. 

            4. Give this book to him if you go to his house.

                अगर आप उसके घर जाएं तो उसे यह किताब दें।

                మీరు అతని ఇంటికి వెళితే ఈ పుస్తకం అతనికి ఇవ్వండి.

            5.   I should work if I want money.

                 मुझे पैसे चाहिए तो काम करना चाहिए।।

                 నాకు డబ్బు కావాలంటే  నేను పని చేయాలి.

6. If you take this food daily, you will become stronger.

    अगर आप इस भोजन को रोज लेते हैं तो आप मजबूत बनेंगे।

మీరు రోజూ ఈ ఆహారాన్ని తీసుకుంటే, బలంగా ఉంటారు.

           7. Fever will not come down if you don't take this pill.

               यदि आप इस गोली को नहीं लेते हैं तो बुखार कम नहीं होगा।

                మీరు ఈ మాత్ర తీసుకోకపోతే జ్వరం తగ్గదు.

           8. Don't buy that house if you are not satisfied.

               यदि आप संतुष्ट नहीं हैं तो उस घर को न खरीदें।

మీరు సంతృప్తి చెందకపోతే ఆ ఇంటిని కొనకండి.

  

9. Call me if you need any help.
    यदि आपको किसी सहायता की आवश्यकता हो तो मुझे  फ़ोन करो।

    మీకు ఏదైనా సహాయం అవసరమైతే నాకు కాల్ చేయండి.

        10.   I ask my friend if I get any doubt in mathematics. 

                  मुझे गणित में कोई संदेह है तो मैं अपने दोस्त से पूछता हूं।

                  మ్యాథమెటిక్స్లో  డౌట్  ఉంటే నా  ఫ్రెండ్ని అడుగుతాను.

                       

'Whether' and 'or' is used while expressing a doubt or choice

 between alternatives.

    Examples:

             1. You have to do this job whether you like it or not.

                 आपको यह काम करना है चाहे आप इसे पसंद करें या न करें।

             ఇష్టం వున్నా లేకపోయినా  నువ్వు ఈ పని చేయాలి

            2. I will ask Ramesh whether she will come or not.

                मैं रमेश से पूछूंगा कि वह आएगा या नहीं।

                ఆమె వస్తుందా లేదా అని నేను  రమేష్ని  అడుగుతాను.

           3. I don't know whether she is in India or not.

               मुझे नहीं पता कि वह भारत में है या नहीं।

               ఆమె   ఇండియాలో  ఉందో లేదో నాకు తెలియదు.

          4. Whether they come or not, I will go.

               वे आए या नहीं, मैं जाऊंगा।

            వాళ్ళు  వచ్చినా, రాకపోయినా  నేను వెళ్తాను.

           5.  Ask Ramya whether she can teach English or not.

                राम्या से पूछें कि वह अंग्रेजी सिखा सकती है या नहीं।

                రమ్య ఇంగ్లిష్   నేర్పించగలదా లేదా అని అడగండి 

                                                                                 

	IF You will achieve anything if you try.  If you come she will also come.  The baby will cry if you tease her.  You will miss the train if you go late. WHETHER/IF I don't know whether she continues the job. I don't know if she continues the job. I want to know whether he will come to India. I want to know if he will come to India. No one knows whether she is still alive. No one knows if she is still alive.

Sentences only with 'whether' ( without  'or')

1. Razia asked Leela whether she got seat in medicine.

    रजिया ने लीला से पूछा कि क्या उसे मेडिसिन में सीट मिली है।

   రజియా లీలాకు మెడిసిన్ సీటు వచ్చిందా అని అడిగారు.

2. Saritha asked me whether I know Vani's number.

    सरिता ने मुझसे पूछा कि क्या मुझे वाणी का नंबर पता है।

    అనుపమ  నంబర్  తెలుసా అని సరిత నన్ను అడిగింది.

3.  I don't know whether they still live there.

     मैं नहीं जानता कि वे अभी भी वहाँ रहते हैं।

   వాళ్ళు ఇంకా  అక్కడ  ఉంటున్నారో లేదో నాకు తెలియదు. 

4. John asked me whether the idea was good.

     जॉन ने मुझसे पूछा कि क्या विचार अच्छा था।

     ఐడియా  బాగుందా  అని జాన్ నన్ను అడిగాడు.   

5.  I will check whether Rajesh sent any email.

     मैं जांच करूंगा कि क्या राजेश ने कोई ईमेल भेजा था।

    రాజేష్  ఏమైనా  ఇమెయిల్ పంపించాడేమో చూస్తాను.

        

'If'' also  can be used in the place of 'whether'. 

     Use 'If' when you have a conditional sentence and 

     'whether' when you are showing that two alternatives 
      are possible.

1. She asked if I bought a laptop.

    उसने पूछा कि क्या मैंने लैपटॉप खरीदा है।

నేను ల్యాప్‌టాప్ కొన్నానా అని ఆమె అడిగింది.

2. See if it is raining.

    देखें कि क्या बारिश हो रही है।

వర్షం పడుతుందో లేదో చూడు.

3. I don't know if they will celebrate Christmas this year.

    मुझे नहीं पता कि वे इस साल क्रिसमस मनाएंगे या नहीं।

   వాళ్ళుఈ సంవత్సరం క్రిస్మస్  చేస్తారో లేదో నాకు తెలియదు.      

4.  I forgot to ask if there is any  transport facility.

    मैं यह पूछना भूल गया कि क्या परिवहन सुविधा है।

   రవాణా సౌకర్యం ఉందా అని అడగడం మర్చిపోయాను. 

5. Revathi asked me if I like the job.

    रेवती ने मुझसे पूछा कि क्या मुझे काम पसंद है।

ఉద్యోగం నచ్చిందా అని రేవతి నన్ను అడిగింది.

Conversation between cousins:

Reena:   How does it taste. Is it good?

Pinky:   Very nice, how did you prepare.

Reena:  I prepared with wheat flour. If  rice flour is mixed it tastes  more crispy.
             Does your mother prepare any sweet like this?

Pinky:   I don't know whether she can prepare this sweet or not
             but she knows to make some delicious sweets. She prepares for festivals.

Reena:   It is just 6 days to Christmas.Will you go to church with your parents
              and brothers on  Christmas day?
           
Pinky:  Whether my family members go  or not I must go because I am in choir.

Reena:  What happens if you don't go to church.

Pinky:   If I don't go my friends will get disappointed. More over I took some responsibilities
              in Christmas program.  Whether I take responsibilities or not, every Sunday I go to
              church. On Sunday morning my friends call  me and enquire if I am coming. I like to go
              regularly whether they call me or not.

Reena:   I forgot to serve you.  Shall I serve some more?

Pinky:    O.k. very little.
